How to Find Your Mercury Serial & Model Number

The right parts and the right repower start with the right numbers. Here is where to find them.

Mercury outboards

Look for the serial number plate on the transom bracket / clamp bracket, or on the engine block under the cowl. It lists the serial number and often the model.

MerCruiser sterndrives

The engine serial number is on a decal or plate on the engine (commonly on the flame arrestor cover, valve cover, or a plate on the block). The drive unit carries its own serial number on the drive housing.

Why it matters

Serial and model numbers tell us the exact gear ratio, drive type and configuration so parts, drives and transom assemblies match correctly. When in doubt, snap a photo of the plate and text it to us.
